At seven letters a word almost always shows a chunk the eye already knows: the -ing that closes drawing, evening and morning, the -er on teacher, painter and printer, the double letters sitting in the middle of balloon and gallery. Those chunks are what a solver spots first. Nobody reads a hidden word one letter at a time.
Two of them are stranger than they look. Giraffe reached English from the Arabic zarafah through Italian, picking up on the way the double f that the Arabic never had. And ceiling has nothing to do with sealing a room shut - it comes from an old verb meaning to line the inside of a building with panels, which is why the spelling refuses to follow the sound.
